When cover does not apply
No cover anywhere pays for these, so we would rather say so here than in small print. Any loss from them is yours.
- Driving under the influence of drink or drugs
- A driver not named on the agreement
- Driving off-road or on a track
- Putting the wrong fuel in the car
- Deliberate or reckless damage
- Taking the car off the Maltese islands
After the rental
Three things can still be charged once you bring the car back, and only with evidence.
- Missing fuel
- Pump price plus €10
- Late return
- Agreed with you first
- Cleaning beyond normal use
- Agreed with you first
Sand and crumbs are normal use. It is a holiday.
The deposit
We hold the deposit on your card when you collect the car. It is a hold, not a payment. On Essential cover it equals your car's excess. With Zero Excess it is €300 on every car.
With Zero Excess, any Visa or Mastercard works, debit or credit, as long as it is a physical card in the main driver's name. On Essential cover, bring a credit card in the main driver's name.
We release it as soon as the car is back and checked. Your bank then takes up to seven working days to show the money again.
If a claim ever arises
With Zero Excess, ordinary damage costs you nothing. On Essential cover, the most you pay is your car's excess. If a claim does arise, this is how it works.
- A person reviews it, never a scanner alone.
- We write to you within 10 working days, with photos from before and after.
- You get two independent repair quotes and the actual cost, not a price list.
- You have 20 working days to reply or get your own quote before anything is charged.
Fines
If a fine reaches us, we send you the authority's own document the day it arrives. You pay what the authority charges. We add no handling fee.
Malta's new on-the-spot fines work differently, and you should know how before you drive. Read how they work.
